According to the forecasts the cargo volume through
the port will grow steadily from the start. The “favorable“
scenario shows that:
In 2005 more than 20 million tons will be handled
In 2010 the volume will increase to nearly 45
million tons
In the year 2020 a cargo volume of more than 90
million tons will be reached
Distinguishing between the different cargo types, the
forecasts predict that in the year 2020 Sokhna port will handle:
More than 4 million TEU`s of containers
More than 10 million tons of agri-bulk
Nearly 10 million tons of other dry bulk cargoes
Nearly 30 million tons of liquid bulk cargoes
1 million tons of general cargoes
Traffic Forecast
In 2020, the handling of these cargoes will require
over 8, 000 ship calls per year ranging from small container feeder
vessels to bulk carriers of up to about 150,000 DWT. Throughout the
year, the port will be visited once every hour by a seagoing ship.
