2002 Plan
To follow the spectacular increase in throughput,
while guaranteeing the flexibility that is required in long term
port development, the masterplan is based on phases of growth.
The width of the access channel at 350 m has a water – depth of 17
m, which is sufficient for double lane navigation. the harbour basin
has a depth of 17 m, which is sufficient for container vessels of
over 8.000 Teu and bulk – carriers of up to 150.000 DWT. The
present facilities include a container terminal a fertiliser
terminal, a general cargo / Ro – Ro terminal, and a bulk terminal.
Further expansions that are being planned in the near future,
include an ammonia export terminal, a liquids tank farm and a
livestock terminal.
2005 Plan
By 2005, an agri – bulk terminal, as well as a liquid
bulk terminal with a double jetty, will have to be added. By that
time, the container terminal will have reached a throughput of
several hundred thousands containers and consequently a Logistic
Center is being developed to offer the logistic services that are
required for these kinds of volumes.
2010 Plan
Around 2010, two new basins will have to be
constructed to accommodate the expansion of the liquid bulk,
containers and general cargo. After 2010, the focus will be on the
construction of additional container capacity and logistic centers
in the west – side of the port.
2020 Plan
The Masterplan leaves room for further
expansion of Sokhna port beyond the requirements of 2020. All in all
the Masterplan shows that the port of Sokhna will be ready to
accommodate the transfer of cargo from ships to the hinterland and
vice versa in the huge amounts that will be required in the year
2020. But it shows, in addition, that Sokhna port in 2020 will
develop into a physical, administrative and management nodal –
center in the transport chains of products by providing all
necessary and modern infrastructure, facilities, services as well as
the advanced information and communication systems that are
indispensable to guide the flow of goods. |
